Chemo Comfort is fortunate to have great partnerships, both to distribute our kits and to help us raise funds.

Our Partner Organizations

Chemo Comfort is proud to be partnering with some wonderful organizations, providing them with kits which they distribute to their clients. We have found that partnering with other cancer organizations is an efficient and cost-effective way to identify those who are financially challenged. Through social workers and nurses at these partnering organizations, donated kits are distributed to low-income cancer patients.

Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program

This program offers help 365 days a year. You can call to speak confidentially with their trained volunteers – women and men who have had breast cancer and know what it is like.

CancerCare

Chemo Comfort provides CancerCare with kits which they distribute through their Wig and Prosthesis Clinics, as well as through social workers. The women served by this program are low-income, overwhelmingly minority women.

“Our clients are grateful to have something so generous and thoughtful provided to them for free. Our clients have greatly benefited from the information included in the kit as well as the products carefully and thoughtfully selected such as ginger for nausea and a soft cap to protect and cover their head after experiencing hair loss from treatment. Many of our clients were so touched by the generosity that they have cried. Many have been amazed at the products provided, the thoughtfulness of each item and shared how much this has made a difference in their treatment experience.” Robin Hershkowitz, LCSW Program Director for Women’s Cancers

CancerCare is a national non-profit organization that provides free professional counseling, education programs, financial assistance and practical help to anyone affected by cancer: people with cancer, caregivers, children, loved ones, and the bereaved.

Cancer Support Team

Cancer Support Team was Chemo Comfort’s first partner organization. Cancer Support Team (CST) is a unique, non-profit home care program licensed by the New York State Department of Health that provides free nursing, social work and other supportive services to individuals and families in lower Westchester County, New York affected by cancer. They distribute kits through their nurses and social workers to their clients.

“I wish you could have been with me when I delivered your beautiful Chemo Comfort kit to an elderly patient undergoing concurrent chemo and radiation treatments. The way her face lit up was wonderful to watch. This is a very poor lady with few luxuries that provide comfort and pleasure. Your present gave her both, along with the message that we understand how difficult this is for her and support her efforts.”       an R.N., Cancer Support Team

“On behalf of myself and the patient who received your very special gift, a huge thank you. The presentation, contents and the succinct explanation of each product use was truly superb. It made her feel so special. Someone endeavored to soothe the symptoms of chemo. A rare find and much appreciated.”       an R.N., Cancer Support Team

Charles B. Wang Community Health Center

Chemo Comfort’s partnership with the Charles B. Wang Community Health Center has allowed us to go bi-lingual! Our literature now available in Chinese, thanks to our new partner. For more than 30 years, the Charles B. Wang Community Health Center has been a leader in providing high-quality, affordable, culturally competent health-care to the Asian American community in New York City. The majority of the Center’s clients are low income, uninsured or under insured Asian immigrants with nowhere else to turn for basic healthcare. In addition to providing comprehensive primary care services, the Center promotes the health of the community through innovative, award winning health education and advocacy programs, and by recruiting and training bilingual health care providers.

Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital

Staten Island University Hospital

We are working with the Nalitt Institute at Staten Island University Hospital, which was New York State’s very first freestanding ambulatory cancer care facility, and remains an innovator with a compassionate, caring ethic. Our program distributes Chemo Comfort kits to all breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy at the Nalitt Institute.

St John’s Riverside Hospital

St John’s Riverside Hospital provides education, outreach and screening services targeted to uninsured and undocumented Latina and African-American women in Yonkers, NY.

The Actor’s Fund

For 15 years, the founder of Chemo Comfort worked as a theatre professional. We are proud to be able to give back to this community through our work with the Phyllis Newman Women’s Health Initiative at the Actors’ Fund as well as through social workers who assist male performers. The Women’s Health Initiative assists women who are coping with significant health problems, many of which are cancer related.

” Clients are usually quite vulnerable during this time in the course of their cancer treatment. The kits have been tremendously helpful, not only on a practical level, to aid in physically managing their treatment, but also on an emotional level. The kits help clients feel understood and cared for in a meaningful way.” Carol Mannes, LCSW Phyllis Newman Women’s Health Initiative.
